Holiday Earworm Antidotes

Maddy takes a turn......
In this season of relentless, non-inclusive, “holiday” music, I am regularly afflicted by Earworms: those annoying tunes that you cannot get out of your head, sometimes for hours. “Up on the Rooftop” and “White Christmas” are at the top of my list for public banishment.

When afflicted by these, I long for what I’ve come to think of as my Legacy Music—now-historic melodies that put me right back in a specific era or place in my life. Just a faint refrain—some melodic, some idiotic but catchy, and others idiosyncratic—will lift my mood, make me smile at strangers, even dance a bit and evoke a place and time or certain people.

Please put in the comments tunes you would nominate for a from your Legacy Tunes list. I promise they are enduring, endearing Earworm Antidotes for too many White Christmases or Dreidle, Dreidle, or…… Just list what helps you stay merry and bright while the temperature drops.
Here are some of my antidote Legacy Tunes that promote escape from elevator torture and say something about my youth:
My Girl, Stop in the Name of Love, Let It Be, Lean On Me, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Sweet Caroline… (even if you don't like Neil Diamond it will drive "Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" out of your head....)
Or, don't listen to music at all and reread Not The Trip We Planned. There are still copies available for your last minute Xmas gifts and post-Chanukah (oops, I forgot so and so) repentance.

I will listen to Blue Christmas by nearly anyone in any elevator as early as November 1st. And I spill tears over every rendition of I'll Be Home for Christmas, not ashamed to do so in public. But please, please, don't play Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer within ten miles of my domicile. I do have a mean streak.
