Time Passing

I have a plastic pill container with separate little boxes marked S M T W T F S. I'll bet you know what those letters stand for. Every week I fill each little square with the vitamins, statins, memory boosters, and supplements du jour. Then each morning, with tea so I don’t choke, I move the appropriate (SMTWTF or S) day’s supply to a cute little dish and swallow them.

As my daughter would say right here: Great story, mom.

However, there is a story. As I see the container empty, I realize another day, then a week has gone by… and they seem to go very quickly. I get this gulping sort of sensation in my chest (not choking when swallowing, that’s a different sensation) and think about how fast time is moving, and that I have a one-way ticket on this train of days.

Therefore, as soon as I finish this post, I am heading out to purchase ice cream so I can enjoy my summer. Ice cream never tastes as good in the winter, even with hot fudge. If time is going to shlep me along, I intend to reach out for the bits (my friend called it micro-dosing) of joy.

I am warning you to write a review of Not The Trip We Planned on Amazon asap. In spite of Maddy asking them not to, Linda and Carol are planning to go house to house. This is not a Santa trip - they will threaten you with unflattering photos from fifth grade. Thanks.

That threat of 5th grade photos is serious, Chickie. My gawky self in a terrible hairband. And sadly those Amazon folk have an Amazonic outsized influence on booksales still. But we should encourage everyone to post--just check off some stars and name an adjective or two and you will shift the trajectory of Not The Trip We Planned.

Meanwhile, keep up the microdosing of joy strategy. Especially in these times, we need to support joy wherever and whenever it can be generated. And ice cream (especially WITH fudge sauce) is a guaranteed joy booster.
