We were treated to many, many slogans in the run up to the elections; none were very compelling. Now, it's my turn.
Let's start at the top. The U.S. has a motto. Congress voted to make “In God We Trust" the official U.S. motto in 1956. We know that it's true because it is printed on money. Personally, I find that simply trusting a higher power feels a little passive these days, but maybe I have trust issues. Before 1956, "E pluribus unum" was our motto. For those of you who took French instead of Latin, it means, "Out of many, one". That's a joke and it isn’t even English.
I suggest we swipe out one of them for: “We may have come here on different ships, but we’re all in the same boat now.” Martin Luther King Jr. That, my gentle readers, is relevant.
If you don’t like that one, and worry about the future, how about Kermit the Frog: “It's nice to be important, but it's important to be nice.” Too sweet?
Or, a personal favorite, “One day an army of gray-haired women may quietly take over the Earth!” Gloria Steinem
The earth should be so lucky!!!!!
The army of grey haired women has perhaps been humming John Mayer's Waiting on the World to Change for too long. Seems like we need to up our uppity some. I think the next generation of women is coming on board and this election may have lit the wick.
