The Solution To 'Not Enough Time'

ledelstein2

My friend Maddy has a brilliant idea for the end of each year (only Maddy would come up with this, believe me). Her idea will appeal to those of us who are always worrying about time – not enough time, wasting time, filling time, using time well; you know who you are. You barely have time for this post and it is probably a 2 minute read.

Here is Maddy's solution. We get an extra week after December 31 but before January 1. It’s a freebie! It doesn’t count!!!!  There are no names for the days in this week and there are no commitments. You get to finish up…. or get started… or nap.

The best part is that the week doesn’t count for you or against you; it doesn’t count toward industriousness or laziness. Calories don’t count. Exercise isn’t measured. It’s the better version of the coveted high school hall pass. Remember when you could get (forge) that slip of paper and roam the halls, stop at the nurse’s office (I bet there are no more school nurses), or the yearbook office, cafeteria or just smugly wave to your friends in geometry.

Write your congressperson immediately and demand a Freebie Week. They have plenty of time on their hands (and staff, and fabulous pensions plus healthcare)

For those of you who are celebrating the holiday with enthusiasm, with reluctance, or not at all, Chickie and Maddy and their handlers wish you (and all of us) a peaceful time.

The one downside to my freebie week idea is that so many things I'd like to get done before the next year require other people not having the week off! (resoling the shoes that have been by the front door for weeks, recording the donation I want to be dated before the next year, the postal worker) But everyone would probably be kinder if there was a week of rest before the rest of history...Happy 2025 is something we all could use ;)
